Artwork > Broken Stone Mosaics

I am inspired by the beautiful or puzzling internal structures of rocks and minerals. The way slate breaks into sheets or calcite into cubes is endlessly interesting to me and generates lots of ideas for making an image. I enjoy searching for and collecting rocks from various localities, primarily within Alabama. Some of my favorite rocks to work with are the beautiful white and pink Sylacauga Marble; one of the oldest rocks in the Unite States, the Hollis quartzite; slates from Talladega and Alexander City areas; and the Pottsville sandstone from northwest Alabama.
