The Pine Burr pattern is the State of Alabama's quilt pattern. In 2009, a mosaic artist from the Italian sister city to Montgomery, Pietrasanta, visited Montgomery and started this mosaic as a demonstration project. The artist was able to start about 1/6 of the mosaic before she had to return to Italy. She left all of the materials and I was commissioned by the Alabama Council on the Arts in 2011 to complete the mosaic.
